First of all, try to avoid food that may be hard to swallow or may require a lot of chewing. When there's a sore throat, even chewing can feel uncomfortable. Avoid acidic fruits and vegetables, like foods made with citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, lemons or foods made with tomatoes( e.g. juices and sauces), avoid very cold or very hot foods or drinks.

Forget a little about diets (sore throat will not remain forever :) and choose foods that are rather oily and soft. Like pasta.

drink milk and milkshakes. juices (except orange, grapefruit and lemonade), fruit nectars flat soft drinks and non-alcoholic beer

Add water or milk to drinks if you find them too strong.

Other things that are easy to swallow and may help avoiding a bad feeling: -

  • foods cooked or simmered in liquids (e.g. stews with ground or finely chopped meats, hearty soups)-

  • soft casseroles egg macaroni and cheese, egg dishes-

  • meats that have been chopped, ground or blenderized-

  • meats served with gravy, sauces or soups-

  • cookies dipped in drinks-

  • crackers or bread soaked in soup-

  • add butter margarine, mayonnaise or salad dressing to moisten foods-

  • puddings, jello, custards
